What is rewrite technology and how does it work?
Rewrite technology allows you to ‘print’ on to a plastic card using heat alone. The cards have a special thermo-sensitive layer that changes colour, to either black or blue depending on which card you choose, when extreme heat is applied by the printer.
The ‘printed’ image can just as easily be removed again by running the card back through the printer to leave you with a plain white card ready to be used again.
A specialist rewrite printer is needed for this and we have a full range, starting from under £450 – all of which are listed below.
Each rewrite card can be used up to 500 times so a rewrite system is a very sound investment, as there is also no need for any ink or ribbon so you save money on consumable costs. As there is no waste or old cards and printer ribbons to dispose of it is an earth friendly option too!
What if I want full colour cards?
If you’d like a full colour design on your card, we can pre-print part of the cards for you. You may wish to include a company logo, contact details or some other information that will be common to each card, leaving space for the personalisation to be done by you with the rewrite printer as and when needed.
It’s also worth noting that the rewrite thermo-sensitive layer is typically on one side of the card only but if you require the rewrite functionality on both sides then we can arrange these as a special order item.
Uses for rewrite cards
Rewrite is ideal for a wide variety of establishments and businesses that use membership, ID and visitor cards. As rewrite cards are also available with MIFARE®, Proximity and Mag stripe options, they can be used for a variety of functions, including access control, print release and cashless catering.
