Northampton Welcomes The Red Roses: Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

As England’s Women’s Rugby team heads to Franklin’s Gardens in Northampton for the Rugby World Cup 2025, our town is gearing up for the celebrations. From market square events hosted by West Northamptonshire Council to the world cup matches lighting up the Saints Stadium, fans from around the globe will descend on Northamptonshire to experience the thrill of the tournament and the skill of England’s Red Roses. On 22 August 2025, the kickoff of the first fixture will mark the start of a month-long showcase of women’s sport, athleticism, and community spirit.

England’s Red Roses Inspiring the Next Generation

The 16 teams competing are more than athletes, they are inspiring the next generation, demonstrating the power of perseverance, teamwork, and female empowerment on the world stage. The Red Roses in particular embody the pinnacle of women’s rugby in the UK, lifting the profile of women’s sport across England and showing how visibility and opportunity can spark real change. Adult female participation in rugby in England has nearly doubled from 25,000 to 40,000, with a target of 100,000 players by 2027 (Sport England), thanks to programs like Impact ’25, which are enhancing coaching, facilities, and opportunities for girls across the country (Ealing Times).

We can’t wait to welcome rugby fans from around the world to experience everything West Northamptonshire has to offer. Many of our team are rugby fans, and we’re thrilled that the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 brings the global spotlight to our hometown.

“I’m a long time rugby fan and having been lucky enough to watch England win in Australia in 2003 and also work on the World Cup in 2015 I am SO excited to see the Red Roses play in our hometown at Franklin’s Gardens.  We’re taking the kids along and I’m looking forward to them being part of something very special!  I hope they’ll be inspired by the energy, skill, and teamwork and of course the incredible atmosphere that rugby fans bring to every game!”
