About ViscID - 1k CR80 Card with MIFARE® Technology

When a site adds MIFARE® readers, the usual answer is to reissue every card. ViscID adhesive cards give you a quicker route. You print the new design onto a ViscID card, peel off the backing and stick it over the face of the existing card. The holder keeps one card, with a MIFARE Classic® 1K chip added to whatever technology it already carried.

  • Manufacturer: Fotodek
  • Chip: MIFARE Classic® 1K, 13.56 MHz, ISO/IEC 14443A
  • Memory: 1KB
  • Size: CR80 (85.6 x 54mm)
  • Finish: plain white PVC, printable on the front
  • Back: strong adhesive for PVC cards, including clamshell cards
  • Pack size: 100 cards in sealed packs, which we’re unable to split
  • Also available: 4K version and quantity pricing on request [confirm 4K]

Each ViscID card goes through a desktop ID card printer the same way a standard blank ID card does. You can add photos, names and logos before it goes anywhere near the original card. The adhesive is strong, so treat placement as permanent and line it up carefully the first time.

If you print on a direct-to-card ID card printer, the chip can leave a slightly raised area that some printheads skip over. A retransfer printer prints onto a film and lays that over the card, so the chip area comes out cleanly.

ViscID reads most reliably over a 125kHz proximity card. Stacked over another 13.56 MHz card, the two chips can interfere, and some readers then struggle to read either one. Test a sample on your own readers before rolling it out across a site.

The cards also stick to items other than cards. A MIFARE Classic® chip on a book, file or piece of shared equipment works with any loan or sign-out system that reads MIFARE®. Many library systems use a different tag standard, so check with your system supplier first.

secure recycling through ID Card Centre

This product is made of PVC plastic which is not commonly recycled in the UK. It therefore cannot be disposed of in your normal recycling refuse collection.

We recommend taking it to your local recycling centre for a securer and more eco-friendly disposal.
