There are different types of magnetic stripe cards, which are typically known as high coercivity (HiCo) and low coercivity (LoCo). 

Proximity chip card or fobs are typically known as contactless smart cards - meaning they do not need to physically touch a device for the data to be transmitted. The reader is constantly active, and when the card or fob is within close proximity, the reader recognises the data it is transmitting.

Access control systems that run on 125kHz frequency are also known as RFID (radio frequency identification) technology. This is low-frequency technology that uses radio waves to read the data that is stored on smart technology cards or fobs, and grants or rejects permission.

13.56MHz frequency access control systems are typically known as NFC. It offers more secure communication between readers and cards or fobs, and allows for more detail than 125kHz frequency systems, making it ideal for attendance systems and payment solutions.

Ultra-high frequency access control systems offer longer range reading and greater speeds. Ideal for vehicle tracking or property management, they are often used in car parks to monitor access permissions, as well as in hotels to track property belonging to the organisation.
