Paxton Switch2 Proximity Keyfobs Overview

If your current fobs have a green, amber or red ring and came in a wallet of shadow cards, this is the pack you need. These proximity keyfobs are for use with Compact and Switch2 systems, Paxton’s standalone access control, where each reader holds its own list of valid fobs.

All keyfobs are supplied in a wallet next to their matching shadow card. When you hand a fob over, you write the user’s name on that card. That gives you a record of who holds which fob, stored alongside your spares.

Enrolling the Pack on Your System

On a new system, the first pack goes live when you present its enrolment card to the reader. This is what lets the fobs gain access throughout the building. Once a pack is enrolled, every fob in it is valid and ready to be issued, so there’s nothing to programme for each user.

Adding another pack later takes two steps. Present the original enrolment card first, then the enrolment card from the new pack. Keep that original card somewhere safe, because the system needs it every time it grows. The other cards in the pack handle further configuration, and Paxton’s application note AN1005 covers them in detail.

Issuing a Fob and Voiding a Lost One

To issue a fob, take it out of the wallet, write the user’s name on its shadow card and hand the fob over. Repeat this process for each new user.

If a fob goes missing, take its shadow card out of the wallet and present it to every relevant reader on the site. That invalidates the lost fob without affecting anyone else’s access.

If a fob stops working, check whether its shadow card has been presented to a reader by mistake. That is the most common cause, because it cancels the fob in exactly the same way.

Using Colours to Mark Access Zones

The green, amber and red fobs use identical technology. The colour is a visual cue for the people on site. If you give each colour its own zone, anyone can see at a glance whether a fob holder belongs in that part of the building. You can run all three colours on the same system.

Which Paxton Fob Does Your System Use?

These fobs work with Compact and Switch2 only. A Net2 site needs the Paxton Net2 proximity keyfob 695-644, and Paxton10 uses its own credentials. Need More Fobs or Matching Cards?

For larger sites, the Paxton Switch2 proximity keyfobs pack of 50 comes in the same three colours. Users who prefer a card can carry Paxton Switch2 proximity cards (830-010), which work on the same Compact and Switch2 systems.
