What is a Direct-To-Card Printer and How Do They Compare To Retransfer?


A DTC printers applies your design directly onto the surface of a card using the thermal printhead. Rather than your typical retransfer printer that prints onto a separate film, DTC is faster and more cost-effective for longer-term use. While they can print on technology cards such as magstripe or smart cards, the print quality will suffer on uneven areas, so we recommend smooth surfaces such as PVC cards for the best results.
